Governor Greg Gianforte invites eligible District 2 residents to apply for temporary Public Service Commission seat

Helena, Montana – Montana Governor Greg Gianforte is reminding eligible residents that applications remain open for a temporary appointment to the Montana Public Service Commission (PSC).

The governor is seeking qualified candidates who live in PSC District 2 to fill the temporary position. Interested individuals must submit a completed electronic application no later than 5 p.m. Mountain Time on Wednesday, Aug. 5, 2026.

The appointment follows official action taken earlier this summer under state law.

Appointment follows temporary suspension

According to the Governor’s Office, Gov. Gianforte exercised the authority provided under Montana Code Annotated 69-1-113 on July 9, 2026, when he temporarily suspended a member of the Public Service Commission for one year.

Montana law allows the governor to appoint a temporary replacement when such a suspension occurs. The individual selected will serve on the commission until July 9, 2027.

Officials said applicants must be residents of PSC District 2 to be considered for the appointment.

The application form is available electronically through the Governor’s Office website, and all completed applications must be submitted online before the Aug. 5 deadline.

The Governor’s Office also noted that every application submitted for the position will be made available to the public.

After the application period closes, residents will have an opportunity to participate in the selection process by offering feedback on the candidates.

Beginning Thursday, Aug. 6, and continuing through Thursday, Aug. 20, 2026, members of the public may submit letters of support or other comments regarding the applicants through the Governor’s Office website.

State officials said the public comment period is intended to provide additional input before the governor makes the temporary appointment, with the selected candidate serving on the Public Service Commission through July 9, 2027.
