City of Baker to temporarily shut off water service while Public Works replaces fire hydrant near Center Avenue

Baker, Montana – Residents and businesses in parts of Baker should prepare for a temporary interruption in water service later this week as city crews complete a planned infrastructure improvement project.

According to the City of Baker, water service will be unavailable on Thursday, July 30, 2026, from 8:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. while the city’s Public Works team replaces a fire hydrant near the intersection of 2nd Street S.E. and Center Avenue.

The planned outage will affect the area commonly known as Baker’s Little East, which stretches east of Highway 7 to Baker Lake, from Wabasha Avenue, located south of the spillway, continuing south to and including the Fallon County Road Department.

In addition to nearby homes and businesses, the interruption will also affect Triangle Park, Baker Municipal Airport, and Lakeview Country Club.

Drivers urged to use alternate routes

City officials are also asking motorists to stay away from the construction area while crews complete the hydrant replacement. Drivers are encouraged to use alternate routes to reduce traffic around the work zone and help ensure the safety of construction workers.

People travelling to Lakeview Country Club are advised to use Fairway Acres Road, located south of the Fallon County Fairgrounds.

Motorists approaching from the east side of town should instead travel along 6th Street S.E., continue onto Lakeview Drive, and then use Airport Road to reach their destination.

Meanwhile, anyone travelling from Lakeview Drive toward Highway 7 should detour north on 3rd Street S.E., passing the four-way stop at Triangle Park, before continuing along Pleasant Avenue.

City officials reminded residents that the temporary closure is necessary to complete important maintenance work on the water system and encouraged everyone to plan ahead to avoid disruptions during the scheduled outage.

As work continues, drivers are also reminded to slow down and remain alert whenever approaching construction areas or locations where heavy equipment is operating to help keep both workers and the public safe.
