Billings, Montana – Earlier this year, the nonprofit organization known as Living Independently For Today and Tomorrow, or LIFTT, had to relocate. Originally based on Grand Avenue, they moved to a former church building that once housed St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church. This relocation was already on the agenda for LIFTT, but unforeseen events forced them to accelerate their plans.

LIFTT, which is based in Billings, provides assistance to people with disabilities. They purchased the St. Stephen’s building in February. However, a pipe burst in their Grand Avenue office on March 3, leading to temporary closure due to flooding. The flood damaged much of their furniture and caused mold to grow, which further disrupted their services by impacting their internet and phone connections.
The organization had to suspend its services from March 3 until early April while they moved and set up in the new location. Despite these challenges, LIFTT’s Executive Director, Carlos Ramalho, stated that they are now operational again and continuing to offer support to those in need.
“It was traumatic not only for LIFTT but for everyone whose lives depend on independent living services they received. But as I said, the worst is over, we overcame all the obstacles, we are here, we are stronger than before,” said Ramalho.

Carlos Ramalho from Living Independently For Today and Tomorrow (LIFTT) invites those with some spare time to volunteer. The nonprofit needs help both with their recent office relocation and with their regular services. Ramalho is optimistic that the new office space at 1241 Crawford Drive, Billings, MT will offer more room and better opportunities for both staff and clients. To celebrate the move, LIFTT will hold a Grand Opening Ceremony on Friday, May 10, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
The event will feature food, prizes, and a ribbon-cutting ceremony in collaboration with the Billings Chamber of Commerce.
