Billings, Montana – Heavy rainfall is creating an increased threat of flash flooding across parts of Montana, with some locations expected to receive several inches of additional rain.
Areas of south central and southeastern Montana face the greatest concern, with at least localized pockets of flash flooding considered likely over the next four to six hours.
Additional heavy rain expected
Rainfall rates within the stronger areas of precipitation could reach between 1 and 1.5 inches per hour. Additional rainfall totals of 2 to 3 inches or more are possible through 1 p.m.
The combination of intense rainfall rates and continued precipitation could quickly cause flooding in vulnerable locations. People traveling through affected areas should remain alert to changing conditions, especially where water begins collecting on roads or in low lying areas.
