Congressman Ryan Zinke encourages Montana students to apply for the 2026 Patriot Games and compete for a $250,000 scholarship

Kalispell, Montana – Western Montana Congressman Ryan Zinke is encouraging teenagers across the state to take advantage of a unique national competition that will celebrate America’s 250th anniversary while rewarding leadership, teamwork, athletic ability, and personal character.

The 2026 Patriot Games are open to students between the ages of 14 and 17 and will bring together young competitors from every corner of the United States, including U.S. territories and tribal nations. Organizers say the event is designed to recognize students who demonstrate resilience, leadership, and a commitment to excellence both on and off the field.

Participants will compete in a variety of physical and team-based challenges, with top performers earning a share of scholarship funding totaling $250,000.

Students have until July 10 to apply

Zinke called the competition a rare opportunity for Montana students to showcase their talents while representing both their state and the nation.

“This is a great chance for Montana students to compete, meet kids from all over the country, have some fun, and maybe earn a $250,000 scholarship along the way.” Zinke said. “It’s a once in a lifetime opportunity to step onto the national stage and represent their state and country.”

Applications are currently being accepted through Freedom250.org. Students interested in participating must submit a short video along with basic application information.

The application deadline is July 10, 2026.

Those selected to compete will take part in the Patriot Games from Aug. 9 through Aug. 11, 2026. The competition will receive national television coverage, with programming airing across ESPN platforms and concluding with a primetime special on ABC on Aug. 13.

Organizers are also asking families, teachers, coaches, and school leaders throughout Montana to help spread the word to eligible students who have demonstrated leadership, determination, and a strong work ethic.

The Patriot Games are being organized through Freedom250 as part of the nationwide celebration marking the 250th anniversary of the United States. Officials hope the event will inspire young people from across the country to challenge themselves, build new friendships, and compete on a national stage while honoring the values of teamwork, service, and perseverance.
